Vitamin C Helps Mood, Skin, and Bones
Even though C may not be the new, trending supplement, its benefits are still pretty amazing!

Vitamin C is commonly thought of as an immune boosting supplement. Many of us probably grew up hearing that when you start to feel a cold coming on it’s time to take your vitamin C! While vitamin C is very important for supporting your natural defense mechanisms, there are so many other benefits to taking it on a regular basis, including:

1. Boosts mood - Research has found that supplementing with 1,000 mg of vitamin C daily is a simple way to lift your spirits. As one of the main superstar antioxidants, it is important for supporting healthy adrenals and increasing our ability to handle stress.

2. Repairs skin - Vitamin C is needed for collagen formation, a crucial element for healthy skin structure. C also plays a vital role in the wound healing process. Fibroblasts, the tissue builder cells of the body, are stimulated by vitamin C. So if you have a wound that you would like to see heal up quick, vitamin C will help in the process.

3. Adrenal support - The highest concentration of vitamin C in your body is in your adrenal glands. When you are under stress, your adrenal glands release vitamin C prior to the release of cortisol (the stres hromone), which is an essential and normal response to stress. Adrenals simply must have vitamin C or they cannot perform up to par.

4. Reduces the risk of bone loss - There needs to be a balance between our bone building cells, or osteoblasts, and bone breakdown cells, or osteoclasts, to maintain healthy bone density. A deficiency in vitamin C is knwon to be tied to the excessive formation of osteoclasts, causing too much bone breakdown. Supplementing with this antioxidant can help promote the natural bone cell balance and bone structure integrity.

The benefits of vitamin C also extend to the immune system, the cardiovascular system, prenatal health and even eye health.

So how do you know if you need extra vitamin C? Some common signs include easy bruising, bleeding gums, rough/dry skin, fatigue and seeing wounds. Since your body can neither make or store vitamin C, it is important to get plenty of it in your daily diet. The best sources are fresh fruits and vegetables, however, many of us are under quite a bit of stress and can have a hard time keeping up with the body's demands from diet alone.

Wellness Resources provides high quality vitamin C in our daily antioxidant formula, Daily Protector, and offers two 1,000 mg vitamin C options. So instead of waiting until you catch a cold to increase vitamin C intake, cut it off at the pass and see what a little extra C can do to boost your daily health!
